A while ago I heard of these glasses that inverted what you see. Normally your eyes flip everything you see upside down then your brain flips the image right side up. When you wear these glasses they flip the image upside down, then your eyes flip it right side up, then your brain flips it upside down. But the interesting thing is that after three days you start seeing right side up again, after three days your brain can adapt to any situation.I understood most of what that meant at the time, but now I have a new understanding. I have been in Germany for three days, but it feels like I have been here for three months. I can already hear my english getting worse, and I hear my german getting better. In these last three days I have gotten homesick and had to figure out how to make myself feel better without anyones help. I feel that in three days I have already grown. My mom always told me to focus on the positives and I didn't really listen. Not that I was overly negative (well maybe I was) but that I didn't outright look for things to be happy about. Now everyday I search for one thing that I love. I will do this everyday of my exchange year. Then at the end of every month I will make a list of what they are. This list is to remind me and anyone else that no matter how bad you feel there is always at least one thing in the whole world that can make you smile. And so here is my first list for the last couple days of August.5/28- My mom. Every little girl needs her mom and I am no exception. I love my mom more than any thing on the planet even if I don't act like it most of the time. Because of her I have this opportunity to grow.5/29- Cartoons. The mindlessness of cartoons is able to fix anything.5/30- Gardens. Every house has a beautiful garden. and I mean every house.5/31- Moss. It grows everywhere here. on roof tops, streets, doors, windows, mailboxes, tables, trees.... anything that stands still it grows on.
So When I first cam to Germany my world was flipped completely upside down. But now my world is slowly being turned right side up again.
